Approvio Inc. ("Approvio," "we," "us") helps pharmacies and prescribers obtain prior authorizations from insurance carriers. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. It applies to our website at approviorx.com, our text messaging program, and our services.
Health information and HIPAA
When we work on a prior authorization, we receive protected health information from the pharmacies and prescribers we serve. We handle that information as a business associate under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). We use and disclose it only as HIPAA and our agreements with those pharmacies and prescribers allow, and we are HIPAA compliant in how we store, access and protect it. If your health information was shared with us by your pharmacy or prescriber, their notice of privacy practices also applies.
Information we collect
- Information you give us. If you sign up for text updates, we collect your name and mobile number and a record of your consent. If you email or call us, we collect what you choose to share.
- Information from pharmacies and prescribers. To do our work, we receive information needed for a prior authorization, such as patient details, prescription details, insurance information and clinical documentation.
- Technical information. When you use our website, we collect basic technical details such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you visit. We use this to operate and secure the site, and, when you sign up for text updates, to keep a record of your consent.
How we use information
- To obtain prior authorizations and communicate with insurance carriers, pharmacies and prescribers about them.
- To send the text messages you've agreed to receive about your prescription's approval.
- To respond to your questions and requests.
- To operate, secure and improve our website and services.
- To comply with the law.
We never sell personal information, and we never use it for marketing.
How we share information
We share information only as needed to provide our services:
- with the pharmacy and prescriber involved in your care;
- with your insurance carrier or pharmacy benefit manager, to request and follow up on an authorization;
- with service providers who help us operate, such as hosting and text messaging providers, under agreements that require them to protect the information; and
- when required by law, or to protect the rights and safety of patients, our users or the public.
Text messaging
If you opt in to text updates, we use your mobile number to send messages about your prescription's insurance approval. You can opt out at any time by replying STOP. Reply HELP for help. See our SMS Terms for details.
No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Information sharing with subcontractors in support services, such as our text messaging provider, is permitted. All other categories above exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.
How we protect information
We use administrative, technical and physical safeguards to protect information, including encryption, access controls that limit information to people who need it, and regular review of our practices. No system is perfectly secure, but we take the protection of health information seriously and follow HIPAA's requirements.
How long we keep information
We keep information for as long as we need it to provide our services, to keep records of consent, and to meet legal and contractual obligations. When we no longer need it, we delete or de-identify it.
Your choices
- Text messages: reply STOP to any message to opt out. You can opt back in by signing up again.
- Your information: contact us to ask about, correct or update the information we have about you. Requests about health information we received from your pharmacy or prescriber may be referred to them.
Children
Our website is not directed to children under 13. A parent or guardian may sign up for text updates about a child's prescription using their own mobile number.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We'll post the updated version here with a new effective date.
